The Vicious Circle

The 25th March 2007 marked the 200th year since the abolition of the slave trade act (1807 – 2007) and I cannot help but think of some of the legacies of the slave trade.  Having just celebrated Mothers Day, the legacy at the forefront of my mind is that of broken homes in our community. ...a pattern where families are concerned: absentee fathers; angry children; angry and resentful mothers....too many mothers crying and too many children dying.  The guns, the knives, any weapon that can be found will be used to solve the problem.  ...Am I in Brooklyn, London or Kingston? – where am I? An Expression of Gratitude
In school we read about Sam Sharpe, Paul Bogle, Marcus Garvey and many other heroes who fought and died for the freedom we now experience. There was also Nanny the Maroon, the only mention of a heroine. Today, majority of our youth look to the media for a role model, so we’ll often hear about ‘Byonce’, ‘Usher’ and others like LL Cool J, even at our youth fellowship gatherings. Thankfully we have more and more role models with an anointing to reach some of our youth today, like Kirk Franklyn, Donnie McClurkin, Hezikiah Walker, Mary Mary, ‘Stichie’, Chevelle Franklyn and many others.>>>Continue reading article.
